a whole lotta egg hunting

Wyatt and Ella had their class egg hunts on Thursday.  Both were over in a matter of minutes.  Wyatt’s was less than 5 minutes…..small courtyard with eggs just scattered about.  Ella’s was in a bigger field, but still just out in the open.  Here’s was a little more than 5 minutes, haha.
Will’s was on Friday and was controlled chaos.  He thought it was awesome. And loved having the little kids watch him and his friends hunt eggs.  And they loved following him back to class to get his backpack.  Now on to Spring Break!

mudless mud room

Both my parents are pretty crafty people. The phrase “surely, we can make that.” was uttered frequently.  And often times we did so, successfully.  And that has transferred to my adult life as well.  Chris has gotten use to the idea.  And is usually a good sport, since most of “my” projects require his assistance.

And then came Pinterest.  And I’m pretty sure Chris wanted to ban the site since my “surely, we can make that!” became an all-too-frequent part of my dialogue.

I became determined to create a mudroom in our house.  Short of adding-on, there was only one option….lose the dining room and turn it into a mud room/all-purpose room.  It took a few months to sell Chris on the idea of converting our dining room. But pointing out that we had used the room only twice since moving 3 years ago helped the cause.

Once on board, we settled on what we wanted to create.  Hit up the hardware store for supplies.  And then I disappeared, haha.  Chris handled the rest of the project.  With occasional help from me.

I’m not sure he even thought it would turn out as great as it did but I had no doubt!!  It IS absolutely perfect.

I want to do a few more things in the room to get rid of the dining room look (ie the chandelier).  I want to use this room for kid projects, and homework, and laundry.

But my favorite part is having a space to corral all the kids shoes AND socks!  And coats, and hoodies and raincoats. ALL.THE.STUFF!

sunny days and batman smiles

Just pictures from a random sunny day in November.  The boys happen to have matching shirts on, which doesn’t happen often these days.  They were being silly and I quickly grabbed a few pictures.

If I were president {Wilson}

I LOVE going through Will’s back pack each day.  There’s always some goodies in there.  Usually his stories are about how much he doesn’t like writing.  Or how he loves going to school to get away from the littles.

This week’s gem was about being president.  And I really shouldn’t have been surprised.  Will is lobbying hard for a pet snake (!!!).

“If I were president. I would have a pet cobra to help the army fight. I want a pet snake because my mom won't let me have one. If I was president. Ice cream too.”

year of the goat {again}

SONY DSC
It was time once again for our annual Chinese New Year with our FCC friends.  Our first date was snowed out, so we rescheduled and thankfully most everyone was able to come.  The kids had a great time doing all of the year of the goat crafts.  And Ella and Chris tried their hand at making dumplings.  The 3 of us tried them, and they were yummy!  Will and Wyatt refused to try them, no surprise there.  We had a great afternoon catching up with old friends, and meeting new ones.

renaissance man

Literacy week was cancelled due the 2 weeks of snow days we had.  So the weeks activities were rescheduled for Tuesday. Costume day + poster day all in one.
Mister Wilson had both ends of the spectrum covered.  Super Heroes vs Birds of Prey. Fiction vs Non-Fiction. His love for both is equally split. He would make a pretty good renaissance man.
2015-03-02 W literacy day
For his book character costume Will effectively argued that Spiderman was more than a comic book character since he had a chapter book with him in it. I tried to argue for Jack from the Magic Treehouse books but he wasn’t buying the idea.  So Spiderman it was.  And he was very insistent that his book poster be from his most favorite book, Birds of Prey.  Specifically, the osprey.   I think literacy week might be his favorite week (or rather day) of the school year.

more CNY fun

Since 2007 (while we were waiting) we swore we were going to go see the CNY party that the kids discovery museum puts on.  And each year we didn’t make it.  Normally, the party is in January and with Chris working Saturdays it’s just been too hard.  This year, it was at the end of Feb!  Perfect timing!  We had planned on taking all of the kids, but Chris and Ella had some Daddy/Ella time and went to see it.  Ella was SOOO excited she was going to get to see her China dragon.  She came back gushing about all the things she saw, and the fun she had.
And we ended the fun with the traditional New Years hair cut!
