Wilson {first lost tooth}

About 4 weeks ago Will informed me that he had a loose tooth.  I checked and it was a tad bit wiggly.  As you can imagine, he keep me updated on the tooth situation as the weeks went on.  About 2 weeks in I told him it was loose enough to pull.  But he was adamant that was not how it was suppose to come out. We went to the beach, I was so worried he’d loose it out there in the sand.  But nope, he hung on to it.  I fed him apples and other tough foods.  Nothing knocked that sucker out!  I even threatened to go in while he was sleeping and pull it.  It was hanging on by a thread.  Then Wednesday morning he was brushing his teeth before school and excitedly screamed.  He had brushed the tooth right out of there! No tears.  No blood.  Just excitement. That night he put his tooth in his tooth fairy pillow and excitedly waited.  The next morning he was rewarded with 3 gold dollars and a tooth fairy receipt!  He declared it “sooo cool”.  I’m sure this is the first of many tooth fairy visits in our house!

beach days, part 3

Our last day was gray and cold.  We bundled up and walked around for the morning. And the kids wanted a turn with the camera.  This is a pic Will took.

And here’s Ella’s version.

We decided it was time for another first…miniature golf!

Everyone had a great time.  We gave up keeping score by hole #2.  But each kid ended up with a hole in one at some point.  And they thought it was SOOOO fun.  Wyatt, especially, loved it.  He wanted to recreate golf when we went back to the beach later.

We had a great trip, despite all of us being sick.  We even went out to dinner two times!!!  Which is HUGE.  I’m so proud of how everyone (mostly) behaved.  Little victories.

Ella is already asking when we can go back to the beach.  And poor Will asked if we could go to the beach in the summer “like everyone else”.  Maybe one day….for now I enjoy our fall trips.

beach days, part 2

There aren’t many stories to tell of our beach adventure.  Lots of sand, shells, and playing.  Rinse and repeat.

Poppy and Wyatt, whistling together.   Do most 4 year olds whistle?  Wyatt whistles ALL.Day.LONG.  He can whistle tunes, he can whistle for the dog, he has one that is similar to a cat call <ahem>.  Poppy is also a whistler.  So I love this “whistle while you work” picture.

Everyday the excitement was watching schools (?) of manna rays swims by.  They would just race by our feet in the shallowest part of the water.  (After googling….to be safe) We were even able to reach in and pet them.

Will was amused the first time or two, and then quickly became bored.  Instead, he wanted to read all about them in, what else, his beach field guide.  He told us ALL about manna rays from the comfort of his chair.
At least Wyatt and Ella thought it was fun to see them race by.

Ella was the only shell collector this year.  She had a giant collection by the time we went home.  And she has given out a few to her favorite people.  I need to find some shell crafts to do with all of these new-found shells.

beach, day 2

Beach day 2 proved to be the best weather day of the week.  We went out early to collect more shells.  And explore.  These might be some of my favorite beach pics.

beach pics, part 1

We dipped our toes in the sand and ocean last week.  The weather was good one day, great another, and cold and dreary the last.  And ALL 7 of us were sick (Mimi and Poppy too).  But being sick at the beach is WAY better than being sick at home.  And it didn’t really hold us back from having fun.

Pictures, part 1:

Snack time is always better at the beach.

Mister Wilson was discouraged by the cold water.  He “body surfed” a few times.  He came up with that on his own.  And was soo proud!

After we came back home Wilson asked “Maybe one day can we go to the beach when it’s warm.  Like in the summer time?  Like other people do?”  Some day buddy….

…young grasshopper

A grasshopper had been on our screen all day long.  Wilson came home from school and set out to investigate it.  He carefully moved him to a napkin and then carried him to the table to look him over.  The kids stared and stared at him to decide if he looked scary.  They decided he wasn’t so they all took turns “petting” him.  Wyatt said he was “soft”, haha.  They watched him a bit longer before setting him free in, where else, the grass.  They made sure to give him some food of leaves and more grass.  A few hours later they checked and were surprised to see he was gone.  What a fascinating afternoon!

Trick or Treat? definitely a trick this year...

Oh what a Halloween.  First part of the day was beautiful.  By dinner it was chilly and wet.  By the time we hit the streets it was super windy and freezing.  There may have been some sleet falling too.  No one was home in our neighborhood.  And there were very few kids coming to our door.  We hit about 12 houses and called it quits.  One kid was cold and wanted a hot bath.  One kid was wet.  And one was clumsy.  Thankfully, the kids said they had a great time.  And that is all that matters.

*Our first stop was Mrs Jenny’s house, Ella’s speech teacher.

*And our last stop was Poppy’s, with cousins Jake & Reid in tow.
