twirler

Oh, this stinker.  Wyatt is getting bronchitis every 4 weeks….like clockwork.  Trying to prevent that we started some new meds that do not make for a nice Wyatt.  He is GRUMPY 24.7.  I’m not sure how much more we can handle.

Tonight he was refusing to sleep and asked to be rocked again. So I got a rare, after-hours, rocking session.

This is an old picture from this summer.photo 2 (13)

I rarely take Wyatt to bed so this was a special treat.  And just as he’s done for 3 years, he settles in, always facing out and twirls his hair.  I tried to rest my chin on his head but his hands flicked my face one too many times.  It’s too dangerous to rest your face near a hair twirler. I honestly hope he never stops twirling.  I love it!

dirt girl

My girl sure loves the dirt.  Since we’ve moved in we’ve been trying to decide what to plant in this flower bed (other than the mint that takes over).  So glad we haven’t planted anything yet.  This is Ella’s favorite spot to play in.  Spending hours, often alone, digging and scooping.

Impressive action shot, until you realize he’s about to fall flat on his face.  Mister Wilson is loving soccer this year!

Unfailing Love

Earlier this year, I went to an adoptive mom’s retreat.  It was wonderful but re-entry was torturous.  (emotionally exhausted, not to mention a horrible cold….) I swore I wouldn’t go again anytime soon.  But my dear friend, Angie….you know, Yaya’s mom, was going to a mini retreat in her hometown, put on by her church.  She already had her ticket and a room at a resort when she sprung the idea on me.  I was hesitant, but was excited about a few of the speakers so I cast my fears aside and said yes.

We had a great time!  As expected, I left there refreshed, motivated and excited about trying new things with the kids.  And with a horrible cold.  Figures.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience.  Nothing compares to being surrounded by a bunch of adoptive mama’s and being reminded what gifts God has blessed us with!

I may have to just embrace getting sick again and sign up to go next year.

A big thanks to the hubby for manning the ship this weekend.  He never hesitates to send me off for some much needed time away.

celebrate

Most Asian countries are celebrating the Autumn Moon Festival now.  Naturally, I totally forgot about it until I realized there was a full moon this week (i.e one of the trio was acting crazy all week….).

So we will celebrate a bit late, and hopefully make sure the kids notice the full moon some time this weekend.

And if I’m really brave, I may attempt making some mooncakes this week, or next week.

diggin’ dirt

Poppy has been busy with bobcats and excavators.  And we’ve been busy running over to watch when we have a few minutes to spare.  Poppy is working close to Mister Wilson’s school so we have been able to run over before or after school.

All three were excited for a few minutes, and then they decided they’d dig their own dirt.

IMG_3775

Killing time while Ella was in speech led to Wyatt getting his very first bobcat ride.  I was surprised he enjoyed it (he tends to be a scaredy cat with loud things….). I’m guessing we visited enough times he was ready when it came time to take a ride.  They scooped and dumped some dirt.  This smiley face will tell you that he enjoyed it.

All this tractor talk, seeing and doing led to tractor playing at home.  Wyatt is big about reenacting things (usually books or movies).  This time he had real events to act out.

camp-out {a Wilson first}

Mister Wilson has wanted to go camping for awhile.  The weather finally cooperated and it was the perfect night to have his first camping adventure.

It was a bit last minute so there wasn’t the traditional camping items…..fire and s’mores.  Mister was quick to point out the missing items.  And his response to the missing items was “you just have to rub two sticks together to make fire”.  And about the s’mores, “all you need is two graham crackers, a marshmallow and chocolate”.  The look on his face was shock that we didn’t have those things just laying around the house.  It was pretty funny.  (and we’ll be better prepared next time)

Mister T would like me to point out that the tent is on a gentle slope, not a hill like my FB friends suggested.  photo 1
Mister Wilson, who wears his headlamp most days, finally had a change to use it for real!

He later used it to send “signals” to the lightening bugs.  His message to them, stay in the grass.

photo 2

And yes, they did stay out most of the night.  I think Chris was hoping to come in around midnight but Wilson was SO tired that he fell asleep quickly, only waking at 4:30 because of a nose bleed.  They decided it was time to come in.  He can’t wait to go again!

soccer, again

After last years crazy antics fun season I swore we were done with soccer.  But Mister Wilson really wanted to play again, and how can I say no to this sweet face?!

photo 2 (1)

Surprisingly #4 is the tallest player on the team.

2013-09-14 (3)

Mister Wilson kicked the ball A LOT this year.  He has gained a lot of confidence in the last year.  I can’t wait to see how much he learns this season.

2013-09-14 (9)

There were few “fire balls” this time.  But plenty of spins.  Though he said he wanted to use his “laser eye and water balls” but decided to keep his eyes on the ball instead.  That’s progress my friends!

The littles keep themselves occupied, much to my dismay, on the ball field.  We came home with two orange kids since they spent the hour building hills and looking for worms.

5 cocoons

I bought this butterfly kit last summer.  Spent all winter talking about it.  Promised in the spring that we would get our butterflies.  And forgot.  Then lost the papers for the free “larvae” and on and on and on.  FINALLY, I found the coupon and ordered our very own larvae. 2013-09-11 butterfly (1)

Mister Wilson was SOOOO excited about his larvae.  And then his chrysalides formed.  And if he said that word once, he said it a million times.  And finally we had butterflies.

  2013-09-11 butterfly (12)

I’ll be honest, I am not a cool mom.  They kinda creeped me out.  They are pretty and all but we are forever telling the kids to shut the door to keep the bugs out and now we have 5 bugs inside intentionally!   And at night when the house was quiet I could hear them in the kitchen rustling around.  Eek!

2013-09-11 butterfly (17)

Today was the big release day.  And Mister Wilson (and the other two) was in complete awe of the process.  He was SO excited, and a little sad.  He got all sentimental on us saying they were so beautiful and how he hoped they went far.  Later I caught him singing a song to the butterflies.  He takes his animal love very seriously!

2013-09-11 butterfly (28)

We weren’t going to let him hold one on his hand, fearing they were a little too fragile for that, but one hopped on his finger.  He was SO excited to be able to release it into the air.

He loves this last picture so much he’s asked if he can have it in his room.  Guess I better print it out soon!

He’s already planning next years larvae and butterflies!

hello there!

I haven’t blogged in a week!

I haven’t used my big camera since the middle of August!  So you will have to settle for random phone pictures which have nothing to do with this post.

I’m not sure what’s going on.

We are adjusting to our new schedule.  Who knew the carpool line was going to take up such a big chunk of my day?!   On Tues/Thurs we go from Wyatt’s school straight to Will’s school.  We are in the car for 2 hours those afternoons. We take the long way to school and I pray one of the littles falls asleep.  It usually works. We are still working the kinks out but are getting there.

I have read, and re-read this post from my favorite writer about hitting the two year mark in adoption. I don’t expect many of you to read it, it’s long. (But it’s a MUST read if you have adopted, or plan to adopt. As is this post about the 1 year mark.) As usual, she hits the nail on the head about post-adoption.  So grateful for “truth-tellers” in the adoption community.

We are still treading water, but know one day we will be swimming. I have just recently realized that two years isn’t really long enough for a child to recover from two dramatic loses in their short life. We will eventually get to the place of healing.

Hopefully I will get back in the swing of things next week.

Here are the random pictures I promised.

Chris surprised us and took the Friday before Labor Day off.  We took the littles to the zoo (so strange to go without Mister Wilson!).

Their favorite exhibit, the box turtles.  Go figure.

Followed by the Chinese alligators.

And last, a carousel ride.  We were the only ones there and the sweet man let us ride THREE times!

one last summer holiday

Our last official weekend of summer was a rainy one.  Seems like all our summer holidays were rainy this year.  We did celebrate with some watermelon.  Of course, Ella was the only one of the three to partake.  Go figure.2013-09-01 Labor Day (103)

Thankfully, Saturday was nice enough to do a lot of swimming.  It’s a given that Chris swims.  And usually Mimi.  I reluctantly get in when it’s warm enough (which it has not been at all this summer).  And what’s better than Daddy, Mimi and Mommy getting in….Poppy.  The kids were spoiled Saturday when they got a chance to swim with all of us!

2013-09-01 Labor Day (33)

And Wyatt chose get in ALL BY HIMSELF! Just jumped on in like he’s been swimming for years.  SO proud of him!

2013-09-01 Labor Day (41)

I attempted to get a rare shot of the brothers.  This is as good as it gets, and it totally cracks me up.

2013-09-01 Labor Day (67)

Just some random “jumping” pictures.  My three all jump so differently.  You have Wyatt’s walk/fall in.  NO jumping included - zero leg bending.  Then there’s Ella’s graceful jump.  Toes always pointed, legs always bent.  And Will’s wild and crazy jump.  The more movement the better for him.

2013-09 Sept

Ella has also added another skill to her jump….ready, aim, fire.

And some more random pictures to document the weekend.  2013-09-01 Labor Day (73)2013-09-01 Labor Day (78)

Dad’s Aunt Lois is in town.  And this cracks me up, Will just pulled up a chair and whipped out his Disney map out and talked her ear off.  He is fascinated with maps again.

2013-09-01 Labor Day (47)

And the usual “who’s awake, who’s asleep” picture.  These two were out within 5 minutes of being in the car.

2013-09-01 Labor Day (109)
Trouble spotting Ella?  She’s inside her pillow case.  Don’t all kids, who carry a pillowcase around, do that?

2013-09-01 Labor Day (99)
Mister Wilson managed to stay awake.  Then 10 minutes from home he finally gave in….and slept 2 more hours after we carried him in.
